Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Council 9846, Port Moody

Our Council entered the charter of councils with the Supreme Council on the 13th of June 1988. The formation of our council is owed to the visionary belief of Edmund Arce, David Ho, Clem DeGobbi, Brian Derrick, Pat Tierney and Jim Sullivan.

Longest tenure Grand Knights were Brother Denis Motut (1996-99); Brother Brian Eve (2001-04) and Brother Mark Pan (2006-09). While the longest tenure Financial Secretary were Brother Dick Kok (late) (1994-00) and Brother John Gurak (2003-08). Our acting Financial Secretary is Samuel Hu (2006 - present).

Since inception Council 9846 have celebrated the Membership Highest Net Gain Award (1988-89); Father McGivney Award (1989-90); Membership Highest Net Gain Award (1991-92); and State Youth Service Award (2008-09), Founders Award (2009-2010). The State Youth Service Award has been the most to celebrate about as it gave the members of the Council an opportunity to encourage patriotism in our youth.

St. Joseph’s Community is Parish of eight hundred families. The last five years has seen an influx of growth, and a compelling diversity. The Church is an old building and the Council was active in assisting with the re-roof project on 2000. In preparation for the hundredth anniversary of the Parish, due in 2013, our Council anticipates strong involvement, and have been carrying out an ongoing fund raising project for the new Parish Community Center. Our other activities at the present time is primarily focused on the Parish Breakfast event, which is in continuum at a frequency of being held on the second Sunday of alternate months. We are very active with the Youth in affairs of Religious Education (PREP) and the Altar Server group.

We are volunteers serving the community of St Joseph’s Parish, Port Moody, BC. We are a ‘Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization”. CATHOLIC as in faith the common denominator, the foundation for continued growth and performance. FAMILY is recognized as the basis of society around which all our programs and activities revolve. FRATERNAL as in, we are banded together for the purpose of providing spiritual and material welfare of our membership. SERVICE is our commitment to our Church, our council and its membership, youth and families in the Community of St. Joseph's Parish, Port Moody, BC.
